ELGIN, Ill. – The Indiana Tech men's soccer team topped #RV Judson University on Saturday afternoon in a hard-fought battle, 2-1.
"What we can take away from this result is the application to our upcoming WHAC schedule where result outweighs performance," said Tech head coach
David Bokhart. "We opened the game well, created a few early opportunities and the first goal, and then had to catch some breaks before we ultimately scored a fine game-winner."
The Warriors got on the scoreboard first when
Andrew Higgins found
Mitch Smith with a beautiful touch and Smith blasted it into the back of the net in the 11th minute to give the Orange and Black an early 1-0 lead.
After the Eagle had knotted it up in the 61st minute,
Ruben Leonardo found
Brennan Cochran with a nice pass and Cochran found the back of the net for his fourth goal of the week to give the visitors a 2-1 advantage in the 78th minute.
Sophomore
Logan Kelly made four saves on the day, with the last one coming just two minutes after Tech had taken the lead, to improve his record to 3-1-0.
Cochran had three shots on goal and five overall to lead the Warriors, who ended the match with 17 shots overall and nine on goal. Leonardo and Smith would add two shots on goal as well.
"Judson is one of the top programs in the country and they displayed a lot of pride after a tough last weekend," Bokhart said. "You can tell what their strengths are and they will find some results in the coming matches."
Tech (3-2-0) continues its three-game road trip on Saturday when they head to Pontiac, Michigan for a 3 p.m. matchup against Rochester College.
