FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech volleyball team defeated Davenport University in five sets (20-25, 25-23, 25-21, 20-25, 15-13) on Saturday afternoon at the Schaefer Center Gymnasium, their second five-set victory in less than 24 hours.
The junior trio of
Cassie Sarabia,
Jazmin Alexander and
Taylor Kelso all had career afternoons for the Warriors. Sarabia notched a career-high 25 kills, two off the program record for a match, and had 15 digs for her second straight double-double. She also hit for a team-high .392 for the day. Alexander also recorded a career-high in kills with 19, while Kelso had 33 digs, one off her career best.
After defeating Cornerstone in five sets on Friday evening, the Warriors and Panthers were locked in combat for the entire afternoon. Tied at five in the final set, Tech went on a four-point spurt with three straight kills from Sarabia to lift the hometown crowd to its feet. Davenport would not go down quietly however.
Down to match point at 14-10, the visitors would rattle off three straight points to put the pressure on the hosts, but
Paige Doellman would smack her 14th kill of the match to give the Orange and Black the victory.
Karli Jones and
Mara Zell would both dish out 20-plus assists, with Jones recording season-high 39 and Zell tying her career-high with 22.
Indiana Tech (10-6, 6-2) moves into third place in the WHAC standings with the win and is currently on a five-match winning streak.
