FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The (RV) Indiana Tech men's basketball team got back into the win column on Wednesday evening with a gritty 62-59 victory over Northwestern Ohio at the Schaefer Center.
Miles Robinson had a career-high 29 points and went 9-for-9 from the free throw line, including a perfect 4-for-4 in the final 30 seconds to ice the victory. He also added six rebounds and two assists.
Dominique Walls had 13 points, nine rebounds, three blocks and two steals.
Tanner Watkins added 10 points off the bench while picking up deuces wild in rebounds, assists and steals.
Lavonte Davis had six points while
Tyrece Edwards chipped in four points, six steals and two steals.
In a game that saw seven lead changes and six ties, neither side was able to get break away from the other, with the biggest lead belonging to Tech with 9:56 left in the first half as they led by nine after a tip-in basket by Davis.
The Racers would go on a 10-2 run after that basket to cut the deficit to 17-16 with 7:13 to go in the first half, with each side trading baskets for the remainder of half as Tech entered the locker room up 26-25.
A steal and dunk from Walls opened the second half with a bang for the Orange and Black, but the visitors from Lima held tough and took the lead back with 13:12 to go after a three-point basket.
Robinson would take over the rest of the game however, as he had 24 of his 29 points in the second half, including seven straight in less than a minute from 12:57 to 12:12.
UNOH would tie it up at 53 with 3:46 to go and took a one-point lead 59 seconds later, but Robinson pushed the tempo with a fast-break layup to take back the lead and hitting a wide-open three pointer on the Warriors next possession to give the hosts a 58-54 lead with 1:20 left.
While the Racers would cut the deficit to two on back-to-back possessions, Robinson would step calmly to the charity stripe and hit all four of his free throws, with the last two coming with eight seconds left to go. UNOH's Lawrence Jackson had a chance to get a shot off at the buzzer, but the Warriors defense forced him to take an extra dribble and he was unable to get the ball off as the final horn sounded.
Tech (13-6, 9-3 WHAC) returns to action on Saturday as they start a quick two-game road trip
