FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The (RV) Indiana Tech men's basketball team won its eighth game in a row and eighth straight in conference play with a dominating 73-47 victory over Lawrence Tech on Saturday afternoon at the Schaefer Center.
Miles Robinson led all scorers with 19 points on 8-of-13 shooting and dished out a team-high five assists.
Dominique Walls and
Tanner Watkins each added 16 points apiece, with Walls shooting 6-of-11 from the field and Watkins hitting four three pointers. Walls also pulled down a team-high nine rebounds while picking up four steals and two blocks. Watkins tallied four assists as well.
Lavonte Davis chipped in 10 points, seven rebounds, three blocks, two steals and a pair of assists.
The Blue Devils took an early 3-0 lead and had the game tied at five with just under five minutes gone in the first half, but the Warriors used a 13-3 spurt to take a 19-8 lead at the 11:54 mark and force Lawrence Tech to call a timeout.
The Orange and Black would take advantage of seven LTU turnovers and convert that into 13 points while holding an 11-0 advantage in fast break points and Tech headed into the locker room up 35-26.
A jumper from Robbie Geoghegan brought the visitors to within seven a minute into the second half, but an 11-0 run highlighted by a Walls dunk put the hosts up 46-28 with 13 and a half minutes to go in the game.
Tech continued to dominate the remainder of the game as they outscored the Blue Devils 26-19 over the last 12:30 of the game.
With the win, along with a loss by No. 3 Davenport to No. 24 Aquinas, the Warriors find themselves alone atop the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) standings with an 8-1 mark.
Tech (12-4, 8-1 WHAC) returns to action on Wednesday when they host No. 5 and defending national champion Cornerstone, who sits a half-game behind the Warriors with a 7-1 record in conference play.
