FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech women's basketball team opened up the 2016 portion of their schedule with a 61-54 loss to No. 25 Lawrence Tech on Saturday afternoon at the Schaefer Center.
Taylor Seiss led the Warriors with a team-high 18 points while grabbing five rebounds.
Haley Cook added 15 points, three rebounds, two assists and a pair of steals.
Taylor Carver chipped in with eight points and five rebounds while
Rayana Villalpando had a game-high six assists and pulled down four boards.
The first quarter saw the Blue Devils jump out to a 14-11 lead as they took advantage of five offensive rebounds which they converted for eight second-chance points. Seiss tied the game up with a three pointer to open the second period which sparked a 9-0 run for the Warriors to take a 20-14 with just over seven minutes to play until halftime.
A jumper by LTU's Allison Kitchen cut the deficit to four at the 6:55 mark and that would be the last point for three minutes and 27 seconds. A basket by Jazmine Brown broke the drought with 3:28 to go in the half and the Warriors would head into the break leading 22-21.
The Orange and Black would the half with a three by Seiss, but the Blue Devils would battle back to take the lead for good with 3:07 left in the third period and close the quarter on an 8-2 run.
The 25
th-ranked team in the country would get out to an 11 point lead with 4:14 left in the game as Tech was unable to stop the duo of Hali Butler and Nicole Buckingham, who combined for 45 of Lawrence Tech's 61 points and took sole possession of second place in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) with the win.
Tech (10-6, 6-2) looks to get back on track Wednesday evening when they host Cornerstone. The Golden Eagles are currently tied for third place in the WHC with the Warriors.
