FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech women's basketball team lead Cornerstone through three quarters, but were outscored 27-14 in the final period as they fell to the Golden Eagles, 81-69, on Wednesday evening at the Schaefer Center.
Taylor Carver led the Warriors with a season-high 26 points, two points off her career-high, on 10-of13 shooting, and pulled down eight rebounds.
Haley Cook added 18 points, five rebounds and four assists.
Taylor Seiss also scored in double figures with 10 points while
Rayana Villalpando had seven points and a game-high six assists.
Tech got off to a hot start as they shot 61.5% from the floor in the first period and jumped out to a 20-14 lead, with Carver and Seiss combining for 14 points. The Golden Eagles would cut the lead to 36-31 by halftime.
The Warriors used a quick 7-0 run to start the third quarter and push their lead to 43-31 with just over seven minutes to go in the quarter and forcing Cornerstone to call a timeout. The visitors would come storming back with a 14-2 run to tie things up at 45 with 3:52 in the quarter. The Orange and Black would close the period on a 10-9 run and up 55-54 with 10 minutes to go.
The Golden Eagles would find their groove in the final quarter though as they shot 69.2% from the field while holding the Warriors to just 21.4% shooting and 0-of-6 from the three point line to outscore the hosts 27-14 and come away with a crucial Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) victory as they took sole control of third place.
Tech (10-7, 6-3 WHAC) returns to action on Saturday when they travel to Livonia, Michigan to take on Madonna. Tipoff is set for 1 p.m. from the Activities Center. Links to live stats will be available at IndianaTechWarriors.com.
