FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The No. 19
th-ranked Indiana Tech ACHA Division 1 men's ice hockey team defeated No. 10 Michigan-Dearborn in a shootout on Saturday evening, 4-3 (3-2 SO), at the SportONE/Parkview Icehouse.
After falling behind 2-0 and 22 minutes into the game, the Warriors responded with three goals in a three minute and 39 second stretch in the second period, including two within 30 seconds of each other.
Jarrett Pfeiffer got the Orange and Black on the board with a goal at the 3:19 mark of the second with
Adam Jonak and
Ryan Theisen scoring the game-tying and go-ahead goals at 6:28 and 6:58, respectively.
The Wolverines would not lay down lightly however, rallying back to even the score at three just under four minutes later.
35 minutes would go by and neither side could break the tie thanks to stellar goaltending on both sides of the ice and the game would go into a shootout. Jonak would score on Tech's first opportunity, but Ryan Urso forced it to sudden death on the Wolverines third try.
Both teams would miss their next four chances until Kevin Bechard and
Brian Skillicorn each made their shots on the eighth attempt. Three misses later,
Alex Gregorich stepped up to the line and calmly skated down the ice to bury one past UM-Dearborn goalie Nate Ferris for the win as Tech earned a split on the weekend.
Jace Childs notched two assists while
Joe Molfetta recorded one.
Zach Larson made 32 saves on 35 shots while picking up his tenth victory of the season.
Tech (18-12-1-1) continues its homestand next weekend when they welcome in Midland for a two-game set. Puck drop is set for 8:30 p.m. on Friday and 6 p.m. on Saturday from the SportONE/Parkview Icehouse. Links to live video and stats will be available at IndianaTechWarriors.com.
