Warriors Ready for National Duals

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The second ranked Indiana Tech wrestling team makes the short trip across the Summit City this weekend to the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum for the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Multi-Divisional National Duals "Mat Mayhem" presented by the United States Marine Corps in honor of Cliff Keen.

This is the third year of the National Duals meet and teams from all across the country and across five collegiate divisions will be making the trip to Fort Wayne for one of the biggest wrestling events in the nation. Schools from the ranks of NCAA Division II, III, NAIA, NJCAA as well as women's teams will be showcasing their teams and looking to add a National Duals title to their trophy collections.

First-year head coach Thomas Pompei has his Warriors ranked second in the country for the second week in a row, the highest ranking in program history, and has 10 wrestlers ranked nationally as well. Leading the pack is two-time All-American junior Mitch Pawlak, ranked first in the 125 pound division, and senior LJ Grayson, who sits at number two nationally in the 184 pound class.

A trio of Warriors find themselves at fourth in their respective divisions: Matthew Miller (141 pounds), Sawyer Miller (125) and Travis Barroquillo (133). John Weldon is fifth in the 165 pound group, Jacob Johnson is sixth at 174 pounds, Thomas Garty (149) sits at eighth, Chase Hack is ninth in the 157 pound division and Robert Humphrey rounds out the Orange and Black at 14th in the 141 weight class.

Last year the Warriors finished seventh in the duals for the second year in a row.

Tech will start off the duals at 11 a.m. on Friday on mat 13 (Expo Center) with a familiar foe in the University of the Cumberlands. The Orange and Black defeated the then-19th ranked Patriots, 29-13, back on Dec. 12 in the Warrior Duals.

Coach Pompei's squad will then face off with either No. 7 Oklahoma City or No. 16 Midland at 3 p.m. on Friday, with their following matches dependent on how they do in the first two rounds. Saturday's matches will begin at 9 a.m. with the championship round taking center stage in the Coliseum itself at 4:30 p.m.

For more information on the duals, check out the NWCA Meet Central Page here.
