th-ranked Illinois, 7-2, on Friday evening at University of Illinois Ice Arena and suffering their first loss of the season.
A goal from
Felix Kronwall tied the game at one at 6:32 in the first, but the Illini would rattle off three straight goals to take a 4-1 lead midway through the second period.
Jimmie Kotilainen would cut the deficit in half at 8:01 in the second, but the hosts would answer back with three more goals in the third to hand Tech its first loss.
Zach Larson made 25 saves in net for the Orange and Black while
Jarrett Pfeiffer and
Joe Molfetta notched the assists for the night.
Tech (4-1-0) returns to action on Saturday for a rematch with Illinois. Puck drop is set for 8 p.m. from University of Illinois Ice Arena.
