Tech Cruises to Sweep of Wolverines

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech volleyball team took down Michigan-Dearborn for their fifth straight win on Wednesday night, coming out on top 25-9, 25-19, 25-11 at the Schaefer Center.

Gabby Staggs led the Warriors with a game-high nine kills, three blocks and a .692 hitting percentage, while Cassie Sarabia followed with eight of her own. Sarabia would also contribute a career-high six aces in addition to her .389 hitting percentage and eight digs. Karli Jones concluded her night dishing out 15 assists and Taylor Kelso rounded out the Orange and Black leaders with 11 digs.

Tech opened up the first set by quickly establishing a commanding lead over the visiting Wolverines before going on a nine-point run behind the strong serving of Sarabia, who logged three aces in the stretch, to set up the 25-9 opener victory. Michigan-Dearborn forced the Warriors to play back and forth in set number two, as both teams sat in a 13-all lock mid set. A string of attacks from Staggs and Paige Doellman mixed with errors on the opposing side of the net gave Tech the 2-0 advantage heading into the decisive set. The Orange and Black were able to grow their 10-2 lead into a 16-4 advantage in the third set, but the errors committed from the Wolverines were enough for the Warriors to capitalize and secure the 25-11 set score and match sweep.

The Warriors would hit .413 for the match while limiting UM-Dearborn to a .013 attack percentage.

Tech (21-8, 7-4 WHAC) will take to the road for a weekend stint in Michigan, kicking off their trip on Friday at Davenport beginning at 7 p.m. and will continue into Saturday as they take on Concordia (Mich.) with a first serve set for 1 p.m.
