Tech Explodes for Four Goals in Second to Run Away from Midland

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech ACHA Division 1 men's ice hockey team got back on the winning track on Saturday evening at the SportONE/Parkview Icehouse as they defeated Midland University, 7-3.

"It took us a little to get going today but I was glad to see us get our power play clicking and everyone contributing", head coach Frank DiCristofaro said.

The Warriors would strike first as Jace Childs made it 1-0 at the 7:49 mark in the first period, but the visiting Warriors would strike back quickly with two goals in the next 74 seconds and headed into the locker room with a 2-1 lead at the intermission.

Tech would then find their offensive mojo in the second period with four goals as Kyle Cobb tied it up at two at 18:54 before Jimmie Kotilainen put the hosts up 3-2 with a power play goal at 7:50. Childs would then notch his second goal of the game just 15 seconds later as the Orange and Black doubled their lead to 4-2.

Midland would cut the lead to 5-3 with 13:49 to go in the contest, but the Warriors would strike quickly with Joe Molfetta and Adam Jonak scoring at 11:41 and 9:36, respectively, to put the game out of reach.

Zach Larson made 29 saves in net for the win while Molfetta had 14 face-off wins for the Warriors.

Tech (8-2-0) returns to the ice on Sunday for a rematch with Midland. Puck drop is set for 12:30 p.m. from the SportONE/Parkview Icehouse.
