FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech men's ice hockey team fell to Midland University, 6-3, on Sunday afternoon at the SportONE/Parkview Icehouse.
"We shot ourselves in the foot with several penalties," head coach
Frank DiCristofaro said. "We need to do a better job of staying composed and playing within ourselves."
In a game that featured 37 combined penalties, the home Warriors would go ahead at 11:52 in the first thanks to a goal from
Jarrett Pfeiffer, but the visiting Warriors would storm right back with two goals in the 2:51 to take a 2-1 lead before adding two more in the final six and a half minutes to head into the first intermission up 4-1.
Blake Neumann would give Midland a 5-1 lead at 17:53 in the second with a short-handed goal and while
Nick Papandrea and
Felix Kronwall would light the lamp in the second, Tech was unable to cut into the lead anymore as Midland earned the weekend split with the 6-3 win.
Zach Larson made 11 saves in the first period before being relieved by
John Slavik to start the second, who finished the afternoon with 20 saves.
Tech (8-3-0) returns to action on Friday with a Great Lakes Collegiate Hockey League (GLCHL) contest against Rochester College. Puck drop is set for 8 p.m. from Suburban Ice Macomb in Macomb, Michigan.
