Warriors End Skid with 4-2 Win over Kent State

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech ACHA Division 1 men's ice hockey team ended a four-game losing streak on Saturday evening with a 4-2 win over 21st-ranked Kent State at the SportONE/Parkview Icehouse.

"We have been battling injuries and it's good to see some guys beginning to come out of that," head coach Frank DiCristofaro said. "I was happy with our overall energy today."

Tech exploded for three goals in the opening period, with Joe Molfetta scoring his team-leading 12th goal of the season just 1:23 into the game while Jarrett Pfeiffer made it 2-0 at the 9:51 mark in the first. The Warriors continued to rack up the shots on the Golden Flashes and chased starting goalkeeper Adam Ranck as Felix Kronwall took the one-timer from Ryan Attwood to make it 3-0 Tech at the 5:06 mark.

Kent State would cut the deficit to two goals with 10:01 in the second, but Pfeiffer would put the lead right back at three with a power play goal just over three minutes later to put the hosts up 4-1.

The Golden Flashes would cut the deficit back to two goals with just under 10 minutes to go in the final period and pester Tech goalkeeper Chet Tooker with 18 shots on goal, but the Rumson, New Jersey native wouldn't allow any more goals while making 17 of his 31 saves in the final 20 minutes of play to give the Orange and Black a key Great Lakes Collegiate Hockey League (GLCHL) win.

Jace Childs and Ryan Theisen would pick up two assists each while Taylor Jones and Jordan Pitlick would also record assists.

Tech (11-7-0, 5-1-0 GLCHL) will take the week off for Thanksgiving before coming back in two weeks to conclude its fall home slate with seventh-ranked Davenport. Puck drop is set for 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 1 from the SportONE/Parkview Icehouse.
