ADRIAN, Mich. – The Indiana Tech women's basketball team rebounded from their first loss of the season to overtake a nine-point fourth quarter deficit from Siena Heights on the road to capture their first win in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) play with a 83-81 win at the SHU Fieldhouse.
Keanna Gary led all scorers with 24 points and grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds for the double-double while
Haley Cook added 24 points, with 12 of them coming from the free throw line.
Kendall Knapke continued her hot shooting with 15 points on 5-10 shooting, including 4-8 from behind the three-point line, while
Baylee Rinehart chipped in a season-high 12 points.
In a game that was even throughout most of the game, the Saints would break out a 12-point lead with 3:11 to go in the third quarter and headed into the fourth leading 69-61. Tech though, would open up the final 10 minutes of regulation with a 12-2 run to take a 73-71 lead with just over four minutes to go.
The hosts would rattle off four consecutive points to retake the lead with 3:10 remaining on the clock, but Gary would score the next five points for the Warriors while Cook knocked in a pair of free throws to make it an 80-77 contest with 39 seconds to go. Siena Heights would get a pair of layups on their next two possessions, but the Orange and Black would go 3-4 from the charity stripe to hold a two-point lead and force the Saints into a tough shot with three seconds left to hang on for their first conference win.
Tech (6-1, 1-1 WHAC) returns to action on Tuesday when they conclude their three-game road trip with a visit to Michigan-Dearborn. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m. from the UMD Fieldhouse.
