Tech Knocks off Rochester to Complete Weekend Sweep

Box Score FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The 21st ranked Indiana Tech ACHA Division 1 men's ice hockey team completed the weekend sweep of Rochester College with a 6-5 win Saturday evening at the SportONE/Parkview Icehouse.

"It's always a tough series when we play Rochester, but I thought we were able to capitalize on our opportunities when we got them," head coach Frank DiCristofaro said.

Ryan Theisen got things started for the Warriors in the first five minutes of the contest with the unassisted goal to go ahead 1-0. Joey Giordano gave life to the visiting form of the Warriors with a pair of goals, at the 12:17 mark off the Zachary Bourcier assist and at the 18:31 mark from Brandon Mezuk and Tj Burns assist, to round out the first period and put Tech behind 2-1.

Period two would provide equal scoring for both sides as Rochester continued their offensive spark with Michael DiFranco sending one to the back of the net within the opening two minutes of the period. The Orange and Black struck back first with the unassisted goal from Dylan Grant at the 4:41 mark and then again from Nick Papandrea minute later off the Brian Skillicorn and Quentin Holmes assist. One final goal to even the scoring efforts from Rochester's Bourcier would put the visitors ahead 4-3 after two.

Felix Kronwall took the assist from Homes to cash it in for the tying score, knotting things up at four apiece six minutes into the final period in regulation. The go-ahead goal from Joe Molfetta at the 8:17 mark off the Papandrea and Adam Jonak assist put Tech ahead by one before Nicholas Denice sent in an unassisted score less than a minute later to give the Orange and Black a late 6-4 advantage. Giordano made things interesting completing the hat trick on the unassisted goal with under seven minutes left in regulation. Tech was able to hold Rochester in the final minutes to avoid extra time and take the 6-5 victory.

The Warriors recorded three unassisted goals on the night with Skillicorn, Jonak and Papandrea recorded one assist and Holmes notching two in the six-goal effort. Tech goalkeeper Chet Tooker registered 42 saves in the full time in goal.

Tech (10-3-0, 4-0-0 GLCHL) returns to action on Friday, November 11th when they head to Bensenville, Illinois for the Robert Morris ACHA Showcase. Friday's match-up will pair together the Warriors and Robert Morris University (PA) in a 7:10 p.m. start.
