SYLVANIA, Ohio – The Indiana Tech men's basketball team recovered from an early deficit to pick up a key Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) road victory on Saturday, defeating Lourdes, 67-65, in overtime, at the Ebeid Recreation Center.
Miles Robinson led all scorers with 19 points and dished out four assists and came away with three steals.
Tanner Watkins scored 16 points while
Lavonte Davis added 12 points, six rebounds and four blocks.
Scott Schwieterman chipped in eight points and five rebounds while
Jantzen Goodwin had seven points and six rebounds.
The Warriors would be plagued by shooting struggles in the first half, connecting on just 38.5% of their shots from the field and 31.3% from behind the three point line as the Gray Wolves raced out to a 21-10 lead in the first 10 and a half minutes of the game.
Lourdes would get up by as much as 14 with just over seven minutes to go in the half, but the Orange and Black would slowly chip away at the lead, cutting it to a 33-25 game at the break.
A quick 7-0 spurt to open the second, with Schwieterman knocking in a couple shots in the paint while Watkins hit one from deep, would cut the Gray Wolves lead to just a single point just four minutes into the half. Lourdes though, would extend their lead back up to seven with 12 minutes to go.
Tech would take their first lead of the game with 8:14 left on the clock, but a 7-0 spurt by the hosts would put the Orange and Black down by six with 5:21 to go. The visitors would then use an 11-2 run to take a 55-52 lead with 26 seconds to go, but Lourdes would hit a triple to tie it up just 14 seconds later and the two teams would need overtime to decide the winner.
Neither side would hold a clear advantage in the extra five minutes until Tech went ahead by five with just eight seconds to go as Robinson would hit the back end of a trip to the foul line to make it a 67-62 game. A triple from Lourdes would give the hosts a chance to tie it up following a foul on Tech, but Schwieterman would block the potential game-tying shot at the buzzer to give the Warriors the victory.
Tech (8-4, 5-2 WHAC) returns to action on Thursday, December 15, when they step away from conference play to host Grace College. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. from the Schaefer Center.
