HONOLULU – The No. 17-ranked Indiana Tech women's basketball team dropped their third consecutive game, and second to a top-10 team, as they fell to No. 8-ranked Dakota Wesleyan, 58-57, on Tuesday afternoon in the Hoop N' Surf Classic at Saint Francis School.
Haley Cook scored a game-high 20 points, shooting 7-16 from the field and going 6-14 from behind the three-point line, while
Taylor Seiss added 12 points, with all her scoring coming from downtown.
Kendall Knapke chipped in nine points, five rebounds and two blocks while
Keanna Gary notched eight points and grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds.
The Tigers would get out to a 7-0 lead over the first three-and-a-half minutes of the game, with Knapke draining a triple at the 6:02 to put the Warriors on the board. The cold shooting would continue for both teams throughout the game though, with neither cracking over 37% from the field.
Dakota Wesleyan would grow their lead to as many nine with 4:04 to go in the first quarter, but the Orange and Black would battle back to take a 24-23 lead with 3:03 to go in the second period following a basket from
Bella Lozano-Dobbs. The Tigers countered right back with a 10-2 run to end the half leading 33-26.
Tech would come out firing in the third quarter with a 9-2 run to tie the game at 35 with 6:31 to go in the period. After the Tigers retook the lead, Seiss would hit three triples in a three-minute stretch to give the Warriors a 44-40 lead with 2:12 left on the clock and heading into the final quarter leading 46-45.
The final 10 minutes saw five lead changes and two ties in a frantic quarter, with Tech holding a 54-52 lead with 4:23 left on the clock following a triple from Cook. The Warriors would go cold after that though, going 0-4 from the floor while Amber Bray of Dakota Wesleyan would go on a 6-0 run to give the Tigers the hard-fought win.
Tech (11-4) returns to action on January 4 when they welcome in 2016 Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) Tournament runner-up and NAIA National Championship qualifier Lawrence Tech to the Summit City. Tipoff is set for 1 p.m. from the Schaefer Center.
