FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The No. 21-ranked Indiana Tech women's basketball team used a strong inside presence to increase their modest winning streak to four games with a 82-50 win over Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) foe Cornerstone on Saturday afternoon at the Schaefer Center in their Lace Up 4 Pediatric Cancer Game.
The Warriors honored 12-year old Olivia Stoy before the game. Stoy, an Angola, Indiana native, is battling T lymphoblastic lymphoma, a type of cancer of the blood and bone marrow that affects white blood cells, and the team collected donations today to help the fight against childhood cancer. The funds raised today will go to Riley's Children's Hospital in Indianapolis.
Keanna Gary recorded her fifth double-double of the season as she scored a season-high 28 points, going 11-15 from the field, and pulling down 11 rebounds.
Kendall Knapke added 17 points while shooting 60% from the field and going 5-7 from behind the three-point line, while grabbing a season-high 11 boards and blocking three shots, also a season-high.
Haley Cook chipped in 11 points while
Bella Lozano-Dobbs and
Taylor Seiss combined for 13 assists and 11 points.
The Golden Eagles would take an early 3-2 lead just under a minute into the game, but the Orange and Black quick 7-0 spurt to take a 10-3 lead before letting Gary go to work in post as she scored 13 of her 28 points in the first quarter, including seven consecutive points in a minute stretch.
Tech would ratchet up the defensive intensity in the second quarter as they held the Golden Eagles to just 25% from the field and didn't give up a single three-point shot in the period as they outscored Cornerstone 15-8 to take a 42-24 lead into halftime.
The Warriors would then explode for 29 points in the third quarter, using a 13-0 run to open the second half and finished the quarter on a 13-5 to take 71-34 advantage in the final 10 minutes of action. The team would utilize their bench in the final quarter as they recorded their eighth performance of scoring 80 points or more on the season.
Tech (9-1, 4-1 WHAC) concludes their homestand on Wednesday as Aquinas comes to the Summit City. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. from the Schaefer Center.
