Warriors Run Down Mustangs in Motown

DETROIT – The Indiana Tech men's basketball used a balanced scoring effort and dominated the paint in a 95-82 victory over Marygrove on Wednesday evening at the Northwest Activities Center.

Dominique Walls led the Warriors with a massive double-double of 20 points and 18 rebounds while adding three assists, three blocks and two steals. Tanner Watkins had 17 points and went 5-of-8 from the three-point line off the bench while Jaelan Manson added 16 points, seven rebounds, three assists and two steals in his first start of the year. Jantzen Goodwin and Miles Robinson also scored in double figures with 11 and 10 points, respectively. Robinson chipped in six rebounds and a team-high five assists. Lavonte Davis added nine points and eight rebounds.

The two teams exchanged the lead six times over the first four and a half minutes before Tech went on a 10-0 run over the next minute and a half to put the Warriors up 19-10 with 14:06 left in the first half.

A 7-0 spurt from the Mustangs would cut Tech's lead to two at the 12:27 mark, but the Orange and Black would counter with a 10-4 run extend the lead back to double digits at 29-19 after a Goodwin triple. The hosts would counter yet again with a 10-0 run to tie the game at 29 with 9:14 left in the half.

A dunk from Walls would start a 14-4 run but weren't able to shake off the Mustangs as the hosts came storming back to cut the deficit to 43-41 with 2:49 to go. Manson would then go off with eight straight points, including back-to-back three-pointers, as Tech went into the locker room up 51-42.

The Warriors would keep control of the game in the second half, going up by as many as 22 points as they broke the game open with a 27-17 run. Marygrove would eventually cut the deficit to eight points with 2:28 left in the game, but the Orange and Black would hold the Mustangs scoreless for the rest of the game as the hosts went 0-for-5 in the last 86 seconds of the game.
