DETROIT – Senior point guard
Rayana Villalpando reached the 500 career rebound mark and the Indiana Tech women's basketball team rolled over Marygrove, 99-53, on Wednesday evening at the Northwest Activities Center.
Kendall Knapke had a team-high 18 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for her third career double-double while picking up three assists and two rebounds. Senior
Jessica Silva recorded a career-high 17 points off the bench behind 5-of-8 shooting from the three-point line.
Taylor Seiss added 15 points,
Taylor Carver had 14 points and six rebounds and
Haley Cook chipped in with 10 points and six rebounds. Villalpando had six rebounds to get to 502 career rebounds while dishing out five assists. She now sits at 499 assists in her four years at Tech.
Seiss would open the game with a three to put the Warriors up, but the Mustangs would respond with six straight points. Seiss would add her second three to tie it up at six with 7:45 to go in the first while Marygrove countered with a basket. That would be the last lead for the hosts however, as Tech finished the quarter on a 19-6 run to head into the first break up 25-14.
The Orange and Black opened the second period with an 11-5 spurt and would head into halftime up 47-27. Villalpando would grab her 500th rebound off a Marygrove miss with 23 seconds left in the half.
A 13-4 run by the visitors to open the third quarter blew the game wide-open for Tech, who would extend their lead to as much as 46 points to sweep the season series against the Mustangs and won their third straight game.
