FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech women's basketball team defeated Aquinas, 85-46, on Saturday afternoon at the Schaefer Center to win their fourth straight game.
Senior point guard
Rayana Villalpando had the highlight of the afternoon as she passed the 500 mark in career assists in the second quarter, putting her in the 500 points, 500 assists and 500 rebounds club. She finished with two points, four rebounds and six assists.
Taylor Seiss had a game-high 16 points to lead a balanced scoring effort for head coach
Jessie Biggs as every player who saw time on the floor scored.
Haley Cook had 15 points, three assists and two steals, while
Taylor Carver picked up her first double-double of the season with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Senior
Jessica Silva added 10 points off the bench and
Baylee Rinehart added nine.
Kendall Knapke had six points, seven rebounds, three assists, three blocks and two steals.
The Warriors led wire-to-wire while shooting 45.5% from the floor and holding the Saints to just 21.9% shooting while outscoring the visitors 36-20 in the paint. Tech jumped out to a 20-7 lead in the first quarter, including an 8-0 run in the last 1:50 of the period.
The Orange and Black continued to impress their will on Aquinas in the second period and used a 15-8 spurt to end the half and head into the locker room up 45-23. Coach Biggs' squad limited the Saints to just eight points in the third quarter as they increased the lead to 65-31.
Silva scored all 10 of her points in the final quarter, her second straight game scoring in double-digits as the Warriors swept the season series.
Tech (17-9, 13-5 WHAC) will begin a three-game road trip starting on Wednesday when they make the short trek to Lima, Ohio for a battle with Northwestern Ohio. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m. from Racers Gymnasium. Links to live stats and video will be available at IndianaTechWarriors.com.
