Warriors Defeat Wolverines in Season Opener

BEVERLY HILLS, Mich. – The No. 5/18 (NAIA/Men's Collegiate Lacrosse Association) Indiana Tech men's lacrosse team defeated Central Collegiate Lacrosse Association (CCLA) and Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Rival (WHAC) foe Michigan-Dearborn, 19-10, in their season opener on Friday night at Detroit Country Day Fieldhouse.
 
Jace Childs led the Warriors with seven goals and two assists, while Kyle Goehring scored five goals and recorded three assists. William McKinney added four goals and two assists while Brian Nichter had two goals and two assists. Aidan Jarmus picked up 13 ground balls and was 17-24 on face offs. Joseph Dosen made seven saves in 60 minutes while allowing 10 goals to pick up the win.
 
The Orange and Black jumped on the scoreboard first with a goal from Goehring at the 13:40 mark in the first period. After the Wolverines tied it up three minutes and 25 seconds later, Childs would give the Warriors the lead for at the 6:42 mark with a man-up as Tech scored four unanswered goals to end the quarter up 5-2.
 
A Michigan-Dearborn goal at 12:32 would cut the lead to two goals, but the Warriors would respond with four more unanswered goals to go up 9-3. The hosts fought their way back in it though, scoring five goals in the last five minutes, including two 15 seconds apart in the last 37 seconds, to head into the locker room trailing 10-7 at halftime.
 
Leading 11-9 with 8:46 to go in the third, the Warriors would string off eight unanswered goals over the next 21 minutes to win 19-10 on the road.
 
Tech (1-0) heads to Dayton on Sunday for a CCLA showdown. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
