MADISONVILLE, Tenn. – The Indiana Tech softball team kicked off its 2016 Spring Break Trip with a doubleheader sweep of Hiwassee College on Saturday afternoon, winning 7-1 and 8-4.
Maggie McCrory went the distance in game one, allowing just one run on nine hits while striking out six.
Amber Frye went 1-3 with a walk and drove in two runs while
Cassandra Mendoza scored twice.
The Tigers got on the board in the first and held the Warriors scoreless until the fifth inning when the visitors exploded for four runs as they took advantage of three Hiwassee errors. The next time the Orange and Black came up they used three hits to score three more runs to make it a 7-1 game, with Frye doing most of the damage with a hit to score two.
Tori Simper also went the distance in the second game as she picked up her first win of the season, allowing four runs on six hits while striking out two.
Alli Watson went 1-3 with three RBI's while Frye drove in two more runs and legged out a triple.
The Tigers would hold a 2-1 lead after one, but Tech would come back to tie it up in the fourth off a
Hannah Foltz single while Watson drove in two runs to make a 4-2 game one inning later.
Four more runs would cross the plate in the seventh for the Orange and Black as Frye scored Watson and Mendoza with a triple while Rivas plated Frye in the next at-bat.
Tech (5-7) continues their Spring Break swing on Monday with the start of the NTC Spring Games in Clermont, Florida.
