FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The No. 3/19 (NAIA/MCLA) Indiana Tech men's lacrosse team opened the home portion of its 2016 schedule on Friday evening with a 16-11 win over Robert Morris at Warrior Athletic Field.
Jace Childs scored six goals for the Warriors, who improved to 2-1 on the season, and also recorded two assists and 11 ground balls.
William McKinney and
Carlos Matta both added six goals apiece, while
Noah Puckett chipped in two goals.
Aidan Jarmus was 18-27 on face-offs and
Joseph Dosen made seven saves as he picked up his second win of the year.
Matta opened the scoring at the 13:36 mark in the first quarter as he buried one past the Eagles goalkeeper while McKinney made it 2-0 three minutes later. After trading the next two goals, Robert Morris would tie it up at the 5:57 mark as they took advantage of a Tech penalty. Pucket would score just before the buzzer though to make it a 4-4 game after 15 minutes.
The Eagles would score twice in the 65 seconds of the second period to take a 6-4 lead, but the Orange and Black score four goals in the remaining 13 minutes of the half, including one with five seconds to go by McKinney, to take a 8-6 lead into the locker room.
The visitors would come of the locker room to dominate the third quarter as they scored four goals to take a 10-8 lead heading into the final period of regulation.
Brian Nichter would score with a man-advantage 14 seconds into the fourth to cut the deficit to one, while
Brandon Gates tied it up at the 13:50 mark. Childs would then add his fourth with 12:41 left on a man-advantage as the Warriors would go on to score five more goals to come away with a victory in their home opener.
Tech (2-1) returns to Central Collegiate Lacrosse League (CCLA) action on Wednesday when they make the trek to Sylvania, Ohio for a battle with No. 4/16 Lourdes. Game time is set for 6 p.m. from Wildcat Field and live stats will be available at IndianaTechWarriors.com.
