GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The No. 3/3 (NAIA/NWLL) Indiana Tech women's lacrosse team saw their seven-game winning to open the season snapped on Wednesday evening with a 12-9 loss to Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) foe No. 4/4 Davenport at DU Turf Field.
Tayler Campbell had a team-high three goals while picking up two ground balls, while
Kristina Scott and
Jennifer Banks each adding two goals apiece.
Alexa Winter and
Dakota Dawson each had a goal each. Reigning NAIA and NWLL Defensive Player of the Week
Sam Vikstrom had a game-high 10 ground balls and caused a game-high eight turnovers while dishing out an assist.
Nicole Price picked up three ground balls and three caused turnovers while recording an assist.
Meaghan Eldridge made seven saves in 60 minutes as she suffered her first loss of the year.
The Warriors scored twice in the first four and a half minutes to take the early lead over Davenport, with Campbell and Dawson recording the tallies. The Panthers would score eight of the next 10 goals however, to take an 8-4 lead into the locker room at halftime.
The hosts would tack on two more goals to open the second half before Scott scored at the 24:55 mark to cut the deficit to five. The Orange and Black would score four of the next six goals, but were unable to close the gap as they suffered their first loss of the season.
Tech (7-1, 4-1 WHAC) returns to Fort Wayne on Saturday with a rematch against Aquinas to end their season set. Saturday's match will also serve as Alumni Appreciation Night.
