LIMA, Ohio – The Indiana Tech softball team dropped a doubleheader to University of Northwestern Ohio on Sunday at Racer Field, falling 5-4 in game one and losing 11-3 in five innings.
Cortney Bingham,
Amber Frye,
Jenevie Rivas and
Jamie Kilps each recorded an RBI in game one while they all hit doubles.
Alexis Vargo went 2-3 with a run.
Amber Terlaje took the loss for the Warriors.
Rivas gave the Orange and Black the lead in the second after Rivas doubled in Vargo and proceeded to add two more in the fifth with back-to-back hits from Bingham and Frye. The Racers would get on the board in the fifth but Tech would answer with a double from Kilps in the sixth to score
Lauren Mank.
UNOH would then score three times in the sixth to tie the game at four before the hosts would score the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh.
Caitlyn Walter would go 3-3 with a triple and two RBI's in game two while Vargo also drove in a run. Bingham, Frye and Vargo would all record doubles while
Alli Watson took the loss.
Northwestern Ohio would score three runs in the first before adding four more in the second to take a 7-0 lead. Vargo would double home Bingham in the third while Walter drove in
Maggie McCrory and
Hannah Foltz in the fourth to cut the deficit 7-3.
The Racers would get the three runs back on a homer in the fourth before they scored the decisive run in the fifth for the eight-run rule to complete the sweep.
Tech (11-21, 0-4 WHAC) returns to action on Wednesday when they host Davenport in their home opener. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m. from Havenhurst Park.
