Box Score 2 NEW HAVEN, Ind. – The Indiana Tech softball team was swept by Concordia, 4-0, and 7-6, respectively, in a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon at Havenhurst Park.
Alli Watson,
Alexis Vargo, and
Jenevie Rivas all picked up hits in the first game while
Caitlyn Walter drew a walk. Rivas would take the loss after giving up four runs, three earned, in five innings on six hits and three walks while striking out eight.
The Cardinals would score twice in the second as they used a walk, a double, an error and a single to push the first two runs of the game across the plate. It would be more than enough offense for Concordia starter Corrina Rotondo, who went the distance and allowed just three hits and a walk in the victory.
Tech would then jump out to a 2-0 in the game two as used a pair of walks and back-to-back singles to score
Jamie Kilps and
Cortney Bingham. Kilps would then add an RBI single one inning later to plate
Amanda Kendziora and make it a 3-0 ball game.
The visitors would rally in the fifth as they took advantage of three Tech errors to tie it up at three, but the hosts would come right back in the bottom of the inning to retake the lead at 6-3. A pair of Concordia errors plus a walk and a sacrifice bunt would give the Orange and Black runners at second and third with one out when Bingham stepped up and delivered an RBI single to right to score
Selena Schulteis. Kilps would then add an RBI single to left in the next at-bat to plate
Amber Frye before
Hannah Foltz drew a four-pitch walk to score Walter.
The lead would not last long for the Warriors though, as the Cardinals used a solo homer by Elizabeth Barkel in the sixth to cut the deficit to 6-4 before taking the lead in the seventh. A leadoff triple from Samantha Capuzzi would put Concordia in business in the final inning. She would score in the next at-bat as Bingham's throw to the plate was not in time. A double from Lindsey Pyle would give the visitors runners at second and third with nobody out and Tech pitcher
Amber Terlaje in a big jam.
Terlaje would strike out the next batter and get a ground out to third to get the Cardinals to their final out, but a walk to Barkel would extend the game and allow Jenna Lowney to single down the left field line to score the game-tying and game-winning runs.
Bingham would finish game two 2-3 with a walk, an RBI and a run while Kilps went 3-4 with two RBI's and a run. Terlaje would also go 2-3 with two RBI's and took the loss, allowing seven runs, four earned, on eight hits and three walks.
