Orange and Black Fall to Lawrence Tech in WHAC Semifinals

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The No. 4/3 (NAIA/NWLL) fell to No. 6/5 (NAIA/NWLL) Lawrence Tech, 15-9, on Friday night at Davenport's Turf Field in the semifinals of the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) Tournament.

Nicole Price had a team-high three goals, four ground balls, four caused turnovers and two draw controls. Jennifer Banks and Sam Vikstrom both score two goals apiece with the latter adding five ground balls, four caused turnovers and three draw controls. Meaghan Eldridge made five saves in the loss.

The Warriors were in control of the action early, leading 3-1 after the first 10 minutes of action, including goals from Alexa Winter and Vikstrom at the 20:27 and 19:59 mark, respectively. The Blue Devils would battle back to tie it up at four with 11:55 to go in the half.

Banks would give the Orange and Black the lead 45 seconds later, but Lawrence Tech would score five goals, three coming off free position attempts, over the last 9:22 to head into the locker room with a 9-5 lead.

Vikstrom would score just 12 seconds into the second half to cut the deficit to three, but the Blue Devils would counter with two goals. The co-regular season WHAC champions though, would punch right back with two goals in 43 seconds from Price to make it an 11-8 game with 19:33 to go.

Lawrence Tech would put the game away with three goals over the next seven minutes and limit the Warriors to just one more goal at the 10:20 mark and just one other shot on goal in the last 10 minutes of the contest to cut end their conference tournament run.

Tech (13-2) will now wait to see their seeding for next week's NWLL Tournament on March 27-30, which will be played at Davenport, and the NAIA National Invitational on May 4-8 in Greenville, South Carolina.
