Tech Gets Split with Golden Eagles on Senior Day

NEW HAVEN, Ind. – The Indiana Tech softball team earned a split on Senior Day with a 11-10 win in game one before falling 8-7 in game two on Saturday afternoon at Havenhurst Park.

Hannah Foltz homered twice on the afternoon while driving in five runs and Jenevie Rivas and Alexis Vargo also homered. Caitlyn Walter doubled three times and had two RBI's while Rivas added a pair of doubles. Amber Terlaje drove in the game-winning run and picked up the win in game one after going 2.1 innings and allowing no runs and no hits.

Both games were slugfests as the teams combined for 44 hits and nine home runs over the two games. With Tech holding a 10-5 lead in the fifth, the Golden Eagles would score five times in the fifth using four hits and two walks to tie the game.

Terlaje would then single up the middle to score Hannah Foltz in the sixth with two outs and worked around a one-out walk in the seventh as the Warriors held on for the win.

Game two would be all Cornerstone early, with the visitors scoring seven runs in the first three inning, with six of those coming via the long ball. The Orange and Black would not give up easily on Senior Day however, as they used six hits and two homers to cut the deficit to 8-7 with two outs.

Three straight hits would give the Warriors their first run, but then two quick outs would find the host down to their last chance. Alli Watson would then double to right center to score Rivas and Selena Schulteis and Foltz then sent one over the fence to cut the deficit to 8-6. A solo shot from Vargo would bring the Warriors within one, but Cornerstone would get a ground out from Rivas to earn the split.

Tech (14-28, 3-11 WHAC) concludes an eight-game home stand on Sunday with a doubleheader against Aquinas in their final home games of the season. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m. from Havenhurst Park.
