Tech Splits with Aquinas to End Homestand

NEW HAVEN, Ind. – The Indiana Tech softball team closed out their home schedule for the 2016 season on Sunday afternoon as they split with Aquinas, falling 2-1 in game one and winning 5-2 in game two at Havenhurst Park.

Amber Frye homered and had scored a run in game one while Alexis Vargo had four hits on the day. Caitlyn Walter, Jenevie Rivas and Amber Terlaje each drove in a run in game two while Hannah Foltz went 2-4. Jamie Kilps took the loss in game one after giving up two runs, both earned, on 11 hits and two walks while picking up three strikeouts and going the distance. Amber Terlaje would go the distance for the complete game win in the second game, allowing two earned runs on nine hits and two walks.

The Saints would strike first in game one with a two-out double before adding their second run in the third after three straight hits. Frye's solo shot in the fourth would pull the Warriors within a run, but were unable to convert any more as they fell in game one.

Aquinas would again strike first in the second game to go up 1-0, but the Orange and Black would come back in the bottom of the inning with two runs of their own. Tech pulled off a successful double steal with Frye taking second and Walter swiping home for the first one before Terlaje drew a bases loaded walk to give the hosts the lead.
'
The Warriors would then take advantage of a pair of walks, two wild pitches and an error to push two more runs across the plate in the third to go 4-1. The Saints would get a run back in the fifth but the hosts would counter with one of their own in the sixth with an RBI ground out by Rivas.

Tech (15-29, 4-12 WHAC) concludes the regular season on Wednesday when they take on Michigan-Dearborn in a road doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. from Ladywood High School in Livonia, Michigan.
