Warriors Take Two from Gray Wolves

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech baseball team got back on the winning track on Tuesday afternoon with a doubleheader sweep over Lourdes, winning 1-0 in game one before taking game two, 8-1, at Warrior Stadium.

The first game was a pitchers' duel with the two teams combining for eight hits in the nine-inning affair. Tech got the only run of the game in the third after back-to-back doubles from Charlie Sipe and Brian Hakes, giving starter Brian Gremaux and reliever Connor McLaughlin enough offense to snap a two-game losing skid. Gremaux picked up his third win of the season, going 5.2 innings and allowing two hits while striking out two and walking five. McLaughlin would come on to pitch in the fifth and finish out the game to pick up his second save of the year as he didn't allow a hit over the last 3.1 innings and struck out five.

The Orange and Black would take the early lead in the nightcap by scoring three runs in the first with Brian Hakes smashing his fifth home run of the year to left field to score Charlie Sipe. The Warriors would add five more runs in the fourth as they used five hits and took advantage of three Gray Wolves errors to make it an 8-1 game and complete the sweep.

Hakes finished with three RBI's and two hits, Sipe picked up a pair of hits and drew a walk and Branson Dossen and Zach Fyfe drove in a run each. Mead, Sipe, Dossen and Peyton Newsome each recorded a stolen base as well. Jared Harvey got his third win of the season after going five strong innings, allowing just the one run on three hits and recording five strike outs.

Tech (24-5, 8-2 WHAC) heads to Ann Arbor, Michigan this weekend for a four-game set with Concordia in a battle for outright second place in the conference. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. on Friday from Cardinal Field.
