FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The No. 7 Indiana Tech men's lacrosse team defeated Lawrence Tech, 13-12, on Saturday afternoon at Warrior Athletic Field to snap a four-game losing streak.
Jace Childs led the way for the Warriors with six goals and an assist while picking up nine ground balls and causing two turnovers.
Brian Nichter added three goals and assist while
Brandon Gates scored two goals.
Carlos Matta and
Byron Bendfeldt each picked up four ground balls while
Aidan Jarmus went 8-15 on faceoffs.
Joseph Dosen made 12 saves to pick up the win.
The Blue Devils opened up a 2-0 lead over the Warriors in the first five minutes of the game before
Jace Childs scored his first goal of the game at the 8:05 mark to cut the deficit 2-1. Lawrence Tech would outscore the Orange and Black 3-1 over the rest of the period to take a 5-2 lead after 15 minutes.
Tech would score four goals in the second period to take 6-5, with Nichter scoring the go-ahead goal with 26 seconds to go in the half. The two sides would alternate goals in the third quarter, Childs scoring with two seconds to go to put the hosts up 8-7.
The fourth period saw 10 goals scored between the two sides with the visitors scoring three in a row to go up 12-10 with 5:57 to go, but the Warriors would respond 47 seconds later with a blast from Nichter. Matta would score the equalizer at the 3:59 mark and Childs notched the game-winner with just 68 seconds to go. Dosen would then make two huge saves in the final minute to preserve the lead and give the Warriors the win.
