Strong Second Half Propels Warriors Past Bears

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech men's soccer team used a three-goal second half to surge past visiting Shawnee State (Ohio) on Saturday evening to stay undefeated on the year with a 5-2 victory at Warrior Athletic Field.

The Bears clawed their way on to the scoreboard first with a goal from Bryce Romanello in the 16th minute, but Landon Cochran tied it up with a put-back goal off a rebound just 10 minutes later.

The visitors were undeterred however, striking back in the 28th minute with a strike from Joe Lamont to go back ahead by one. Nyi Nyi Aung, who came on in the 31st minute, would work just as quickly as he chipped one past Bear keeper Brandon Pfeiffer in the 33rd minute to even the scoreboard once again as the two sides went into the break knotted up at two.

"This was a different type of game in terms of the physicality and pressure we were under individually in the first half," head coach David Bokhart said. "SSU played a good first 45 minutes and we were a little hesitant."

A tightly contest first 10 minutes of the second half would give way to a flurry of goals in a 10 minute stretch, starting with Andrew Higgins knocking one in off a free kick from 18 yards out in the 63rd minute. Higgins would then cross in a beautiful pass to Roman Schindler in the 67th minute as the Vienna native would head in to make it a 4-2 game.

Higgins would then tally the assist on Tech's fifth goal of the night as he put a free kick into the top of the box that found the head of Ethan Payne who put it away in the 70th minute.

"In the second we were more in control and created out best opportunities," Bokhart added. "hats off to our bench and it's fair that man of the match is Andrew Higgins for his role in all three second half goals. What a performance by Andrew."

Adam Viviano made one save in 90 minutes while improving his record to 4-0-0 in the win while the Orange and Black dominated 10-3 in shots on goal.

Tech (4-0-0) continues a three-game home slate on Wednesday with a matchup against Goshen College. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. from Warrior Athletic Field and links to live stats and video will be available at IndianaTechWarriors.com.
