Tech Falls to Golden Eagles in Marathon Match

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech women's volleyball team saw its five-match winning streak snapped on Saturday afternoon at the Schaefer Center by visiting Cornerstone, who took the match in four games (25-19, 27-29, 26-28, 30-32).

Cassie Sarabia led the Warriors with a double-double of 15 kills and 19 digs, while Taylor Kelso recorded her second consecutive match with 30 or more digs as she recorded 30. Keasia Carlisle and Paige Doellman each contributed 13 kills each, with Carlisle adding three blocks. Karli Jones dished out 30 assists while Autumn Stokes was right behind with 26. Aubree Eggers had a game-high five blocks for Tech.

The two teams battled back-and-forth all afternoon long, with 57 ties and 27 lead changes in the four sets. The Orange and Black used a 4-0 run to take a 21-16 lead in the first as they would take a 1-0 lead with the 25-19 win.

Facing set point in the second, Tech would take the next two points and a 25-24 advantage, but were unable to take the 2-0 set lead as the Golden Eagles staved off three set points before taking the next three points to even the match at one-all.

The third set followed the same script as the second, with the Warriors coming back down 24-23, but the visitors hung tough for the 28-26 victory and the 2-1 lead.

The hosts would race out to an 8-2 lead in the fourth set, but Cornerstone would come back with an 8-2 run of their own to even the set at 10-all. The Golden Eagles would eventually build the lead to 21-17, but a 7-2 run from the Orange and Black would give them a 24-23 lead and the chance to push the series to five, but were thwarted by two kills over the next three points from Heather Green.

After trading the next four points, Cornerstone would serve for the match only to see the Warriors come back and be serving with a 29-28 lead. The visitors would hang tough though, and come back to take four of the next five points and close out the match with a 32-30 victory.

Tech (9-5, 3-1 WHAC) heads back to the road on Wednesday when they make their way north to Detroit for a conference battle with Marygrove. First serve is set for 7 p.m. from University of Detroit Jesuit High School.
