Crusaders Stop Warriors Win Streak with Sweep

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech volleyball team fell in straight sets to 16th-ranked Madonna, 25-19, 27-25, 25-19, on Wednesday evening at the Schaefer Center.

Gabby Staggs led the Warriors with 13 kills while committing just one error in 18 attempts, hitting .667 for the match. Cassie Sarabia added eight kills and seven digs while Taylor Kelso notched 16 digs. Paige Doellman also had eight kills. Karli Jones dished out 19 assists while Autumn Stokes had 14.

The two sides traded points through the first 20 points before the Crusaders used a 6-0 run to go up 15-10. Tech would respond with a 4-0 run of their own, but the visitors would show off their toughness by finishing out the set 7-3 run.

The Orange and Black jumped out to a 7-1 lead in the second set, with Staggs and Doellman each notching two kills each, while the Warriors stretched the lead out to 21-15 and look poised to even the match up at one-all, but the Crusaders used a 5-0 run and staved off two match points to go ahead 2-0 with a 27-25 win.

The 16th-ranked visitors would take control of the third set en route to their second 25-19 set win and finish off the Warriors in the sweep.

Tech (14-6, 4-2 WHAC) returns to action on Friday when they head to Sylvania, Ohio for a matchup with 12th-ranked Lourdes. First serve is set for 7 p.m. from the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center.
