Tech Powers Past Trojans

UPLAND, Ind. – The Indiana Tech men's soccer team improved to 3-0-0 on the season with a 3-1 win over in-state rival Taylor on Wednesday evening at Tuner Stadium.

"It was a good road win for the boys," head coach David Bokhart said. "It was disappointing to concede the goal, but we responded immediately and played with some heart to close it out."

Mitch Smith put the Orange and Black on the board first after taking pass from Roman Schindler and converting the opportunity into a goal using one touch just 10 minutes into the game. The Trojans would tie the game in the 55th minute but the Warriors would respond nine minutes later Landon Cochran notched his first goal of the season after receiving the cross from Ruben Leonardo to put the visitors up 2-1.

Schindler would seal the game in the 87th minute as he got the ball on a breakaway and beat the Trojan keeper for his third goal of the season.

Reigning Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) Defensive Player of the Week Adam Viviano made two saves, both in the second half, in the win while improving to 3-0-0 on the season.

The Warriors dominated the hosts in shots and shots on goal, edging Taylor, 24-7 and 16-3, respectively.

"We were a bit heavy-legged in the late stages so we need to manage the team well between now and Saturday," Bokhart said. "Many of our subs have a great chance to seize the opportunity to keep up moving in the right direction, tactically and physically."

Tech (3-0-0) returns home on Saturday for a matchup against Shawnee State University (Ohio). Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. from Warrior Athletic Field and links to live video and stats will be available at IndianaTechWarriors.com.
