FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The No. 20-ranked Indiana Tech women's basketball team snapped a two-game losing skid as they avenged their first loss of the season to Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) foe Madonna, 77-63, Wednesday at the Schaefer Center.
Keanna Gary continued her torrid season with her 14
th double-double of the season, scoring a game-high 26 points while grabbing 16 rebounds, also a game-high, picking up three steals and dishing out two assists.
Haley Cook also recorded a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds while adding four steals and two assists.
Baylee Rinehart chipped in 14 points off the bench and
Kendall Knapke added 10 points, seven rebounds, three assists and two steals.
The Crusaders would hold the Warriors to just 33.3% shooting in the first quarter while using a 9-2 run to take a 15-10 lead with 2:20 to go in the period. A quick five-point spurt from Tech though would tie the game up at 15 with just over 90 seconds to go and headed into the first break leading 17-15.
The Orange and Black would flip the switch on during the second period though, going 10-18 from the floor while limiting the visitors to just 18.8% (3-16) shooting and going on a 26-8 run to take a 41-25 lead into the locker room at halftime. A 10-0 spurt would put the hosts up 27-23 with just under six minutes to go while Tech closed the quarter on a 14-0 run.
The Warriors would turn to Gary in the third period as the junior went 5-7 from the field en route to 12 points in the period as the Coach
Jessie Biggs' team increased its lead to 14 points and held a 46-42 advantage heading into the final quarter.
Tech would increase its lead to 17 points with 9:10 to go in the quarter, but Madonna would not go down lightly as they used a 10-4 run to cut the deficit to six with 4:13 left in the game. The Warriors responded with a 6-0 spurt to push the lead back up to double digits with two and a half minutes to go and put the game out of reach.
Tech (14-6, 9-4 WHAC) hits the road Saturday as they travel to Grand Rapids, Michigan for a showdown with Cornerstone. Tipoff is set for 1 p.m. from Mol Arena.
