Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Warriors Hang Tough, Fall to Number One Cornerstone

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Indiana Tech men's basketball team saw its five-game winning streak snapped on Saturday afternoon as they fell to No. 1-ranked Cornerstone, 82-71, in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) play at Mol Arena.

Miles Robinson scored a team-high 20 points, dished out a game-high five assists and grabbed four rebounds while Scott Schwieterman added 14 points and eight rebounds. Franklin Lindsey, Max Huber and CJ Bussey chipped in nine, eight and seven points, respectively, off the bench.

Both teams would struggle shooting the ball out of the gate, with the Golden Eagles holding a 7-2 lead with five minutes gone. A three-pointer from Lindsey would cap an 8-2 run though to give the Warriors a 10-9 lead at the 13:31 mark.

A 12-6 run from the visitors would make it 22-20 with 5:46 to play in the first half, but Cornerstone would respond with a 9-2 run to take a 38-30 lead with just over a minute remaining until the break. A three-pointer from Huber and a pair of free throws from Bussey though would cut the deficit to three after 20 minutes of action.

The Warriors would open the second half with a strong dose of Schwieterman and Lavonte Davis in the paint, with the former scoring the team's first six points of the half and eight of their first 10.

The Golden Eagles would show their number one ranking with an 11-0 run to take a 65-48 lead with 9:27 left in the game. The Orange and Black would stay tough though, cutting the deficit to 11 with two minutes left, but it would be too little too late as Coach John Peckinpaugh saw his team's eight-game conference winning streak snapped.

Tech (16-6, 11-3 WHAC) returns to action on Wednesday, January 25, when they host Michigan-Dearborn in their Suits and Sneakers game. Tipoff is set for 8 p.m. from the Schaefer Center.
