FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The No. 2-ranked Indiana Tech wrestling team returned to the mats on Thursday as they took part in the NWCA National Duals at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum. Tech defeated Lindenwood-Belleville, 36-12, in the first round, before taking down No.11-ranked Concordia (Neb.), 31-18, in the quarterfinals.
The Warriors used three falls to race out to an early lead against the Lynx, with Ngun Uk starting the match off with a victory in just 45 seconds.
Thomas Garty would grab Tech's second pin of the match at 4:01 in the 149-pounds match to make it 18-6.
Jacob Gross and
John Weldon would then pick up decisions at 157 and 165-lbs, winning 11-4 and 8-3, respectively. The Orange and Black would then capture the last three bouts with a fall from
Dillon Francisco (4:38) and 8-7 and 7-0 decisions, respectively, from
Trevor Yank and
Oscar Martinez.
Taking on the 11
th-ranked Bulldogs in the quarterfinals, the Warriors would get out to an 18-4 lead after four matches thanks to a three straight falls from
Mitch Pawlak (2:59),
Matthew Miller (1:19) and
Justin Atkinson (6:09). Weldon and
Antonio Rodriguez would extend the lead to 27-10 with a 7-2 decision and 18-4 major decision before Francisco pinned his opponent at 1:47 to secure the victory for the Orange and Black.
Tech (10-3) returns to action Friday as they take on No. 16-ranked Life University in the National Duals semifinals from the Coliseum. Action is set to get underway at 11 a.m. on mat #6 in the Expo Center. The Warriors will then take on either No. 1-ranked Grand View or Barker in the finals or third place match at 2 p.m.
