FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech men's ice hockey team overcame three different deficits to defeat ACHA Division I No. 18-ranked Midland, 6-5, in overtime on Saturday afternoon at the SportONE/Parkview Ice House.
"I really liked the battle in our team today," head coach
Frank DiCristofaro said. "Even when we were down with under five minutes to go, you could feel this group still believed in each other. There was never any quit and that's what we'll need moving forward."
Jace Childs would nab the title of hero as the winger notched the game-tying goal with just 1:09 left in the game while he lit the lamp 24 seconds into overtime to give Tech the win as they competed their opening weekend with a sweep.
Reed Kaiser,
Adam Vannelli,
Brian Skillicorn and
Jimmie Kotilainen would also notch goals while
John Slavik made 31 saves in net to pick up the win.
Tech (2-0-0) returns to action on Friday, October 13 as they open Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) play against Rochester. Puck drop is set for 8 p.m. from Suburban Ice Macomb.
