KENT, Ohio – The Indiana Tech men's ice hockey team improved its winning streak to five games on the young season as they defeated ACHA Division I foe Kent State, 5-2, on Friday night at the Kent State Ice Arena.
"We played with good pace today and stuck to our systems," head coach
Frank DiCristofaro said. "That's what made us successful. We need more of the same tomorrow."
Reed Kaiser would score the lone goal of the first period as he gave the Warriors a 1-0 lead at 11:49 in the first. The Golden Flashes would tie the game up just 62 seconds into the second, but
Jarrett Pfeiffer and
Jace Childs would each light the lamp at 6:16 and 1:22, respectively, to give the visitors a 3-1 lead heading into the final period.
Zach Bennett would make it a 4-1 game with a power play goal at 13:40 while
Nick Papandrea capped the scoring with a blast at 8:35 to respond to a KSU goal and make it 5-2.
John Slavik made 26 saves in net for the win. Pfeiffer would add a pair of assists to finish with a game-high three points.
Tech (5-0-0) concludes its series with Kent State on Saturday. Puck drop is set for 7:30 p.m. from the Kent State Ice Arena.
