Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Tech Extends Winning Streak to Seven Games with Win over Saints

BYRON CENTER, Mich. – The Indiana Tech men's ice hockey team continued its best start in program history as they defeated Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) and NAIA Division foe Aquinas, 3-2, on Friday afternoon at Southside Ice Arena to improve their record to a perfect 7-0-0.

"We need to play a full 60 minutes," head coach Frank DiCristofaro said. "We scored three quick ones and everyone thought it was point night all of a sudden. Aquinas has too much pride for that and they showed it. We also got into penalty trouble in the third period which didn't help. We need to come out with a better mental approach tomorrow."

Tech started the game on fire as they scored three goals in the opening period, with Jace Childs lighting the lamp at 11:19 to put the visitors on the scoreboard. Joe Molfetta made it a 2-0 game at 8:52 with a power play goal while Stavros Soilis capped the Warrior scoring with a goal at 4:46.

The Saints would not go down quietly though, scoring twice in the third to put the pressure on the Orange and Black, with Aquinas scoring a short-handed goal at 5:41 to cut the deficit to one. The Warriors would tighten up the hatches though, to hold on for the win.

John Slavik made 30 saves in net for the win while Zach Bennett tallied a pair of assists.

Tech (7-0-0, 3-0-0 WHAC) returns to action on Saturday as they host Aquinas in a NAIA Division game. Puck drop is set for 5:30 p.m. from the SportONE/Parkview Ice House.
