FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech men's ice hockey team suffered their first loss of the season Saturday evening as they fell to Aquinas in a shootout, 4-3 (1-0 shootout), at the SportONE/Parkview Ice House in an NAIA Division Game.
The Warriors would hold the early advantage over the Saints as
Brian Skillicorn notched his fifth goal of the season at 4:35 in the first while Tech increased its lead to 3-0 in the second thanks to goals from
Mike Tish and
Jace Childs.
Aquinas would dig deep though as the reigning ACHA Division III National Champions rallied to score three times over the 27 minutes of regulation, with two of those goals coming in the third period, to send the game into overtime.
Both sides would have scoring opportunities in the five minute 3-on-3 overtime session, but neither team would crack the opposing keeper as the squads headed to a shootout. The Saints Kyle Truax would score the game-winning goal in the only shot to find the back of the net in the shootout in the visitors first attempt as they gave Tech their first loss of the year.
Zach Larson made 40 saves in net while
Jimmie Kotilainen added a pair of assists.
Tech (7-1-0) returns to action next Friday as they host Lawrence Tech for a weekend set. Puck drop is set for 8:30 p.m. from the SportONE/Parkview Ice House.
