Warriors Shut Down Racers in Dig Pink Game Sweep

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech women's volleyball team snapped an eight-game losing streak on Wednesday evening as they defeated the University of Northwestern Ohio in three sets (28-26, 25-19, 25-21) in the Warriors "Dig Pink" Game at the Schafer Center.

Calista Helinski recorded a team-high nine kills and hit .333 in the sweep while four players had six kills (Olivia Niekamp, Mara Zell, Allison Cole and Jordan Aylward). Karli Jones dished out 17 assists while Autumn Stokes added 15. Madeline MacDonald rounded out Tech's leaders with 16 digs.

The Warriors would get out to a quick 6-1 lead in the opening set, only to see the Racers use an 11-6 run to the set up a 12-12. Neither side would get up by more than two points for the rest of the set as the teams combined for 13 ties and six lead changed. Trailing 24-22, Tech would rattle off three straight points behind the swing of Helinski while she would close out the set five points latter with an ace to win, 28-26.

The Racers would take the first lead in the second, but the hosts would use a 4-0 spurt to take a 9-6 lead and hold on to the advantage to go up 2-0 in the set. The two teams would battle back and forth through the early portion of the third, but a 3-0 spurt from the Warriors with the score knotted at 16 would give Tech the late momentum it needed to close out the match with the 25-21 set three score.

Tech (8-15, 2-5 WHAC) returns to action Friday as they travel to Adrian, Michigan for a showdown with Siena Heights. First serve is set for 7 p.m. from the SHU Fieldhouse.
