Uvidia’s Overtime Goal Lifts Warriors Past Golden Eagles

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech men's soccer team rebounded from their first loss in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) play as they defeated Cornerstone, 3-2, in overtime at Warrior Athletic Field on Saturday afternoon.

The Warriors would go ahead 2-1 in the 82nd minute behind Jose Uvidia's first goal of the year as he took the pass in the box from Dean Ward and powered it past Cornerstone keeper Dary DeWalt. The visitors would answer quickly though, as they took advantage of a failed clear in the box and Kevin Nimmo would find the back of the net with his second goal of the game to tie the game up at 2-2 and send it into overtime.

Tech would control the action through the overtime session, recording three shots on goal in the first five minutes, but the Golden Eagles would come up with a trio of saves, two by CU defenders, to keep the match knotted up at two.

With the clock winding down to the final seconds of the overtime, Oswaldo Segura Diaz would pass it ahead to Uvidia in the middle of the field, who beat DeWalt to his right and put home the game-winner with just 33 seconds left in the period to send the hosts home winners.

Edwin Rosado made three saves in net for the win, while Brennan Cochran notched the Warriors first goal of the game in the 72nd minute with a header off the corner kick from Andrew Higgins.

Tech (8-4-0, 4-1-0 WHAC) hits the road in their next match as they make the short trip to Lima, Ohio for a battle with defending conference and tournament champion University of Northwestern Ohio. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. from St. Rita's Sports Complex.
