FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech men's ice hockey team completed its weekend sweep of Waldorf on Saturday evening with a 5-2 win at the SportONE/Parkview Ice House in NAIA Division play.
"I think we started the game a little slow, but picked it up as the game wore on," head coach
Frank DiCristofaro said. "We had some really good offensive zone sequences moving the puck form low to high and getting pucks to the net. I was really happy with the energy on the bench even after a couple bounces didn't go our way. We didn't get soft between the ears and kept focus. We'll need that moving forward."
Tech would strike first as
Alex Gregorich scored a power play goal at 13:32 in the first while the Warriors would tack on two more goals before intermission with
Felix Kronwall and
Jace Childs scoring at 4:28 and 1:35, respectively.
Childs would notch his second goal of the evening just under four minutes into the second to make it a 4-0 game. Waldorf would strike back with a pair of goals in the third to cut the deficit in half and get back within striking distance, but
Jimmie Kotilainen would ice the win with an empty-net goal at 1:16 in the third for the 5-2 victory.
Chet Tooker made 28 saves in net for his first win of the season while
Zach Bennett,
Stavros Soilis,
Jarrett Pfeiffer, Kronwall,
Mike Tish and
Ryan Attwood all netted assists.
Tech (11-0-1) starts a six-game road trip next weekend as they travel to St. Louis, Missouri for a battle with NAIA Division foe Lindenwood-Belleville. Puck drop is set for 11:20 p.m. EST Friday from the St. Louis Ice Zone.
