FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech men's ice hockey team defeated Waldorf, 5-2, on Friday evening in NAIA Division play at the SportONE/Parkview Ice House.
"I thought we had some of our most positive energy on the bench tonight," head coach
Frank DiCristofaro said. "I think that translated into a solid 60 minutes of hockey. We got pucks to the net and had a great penalty kill late in the game. We need to bring that energy again tomorrow."
The host Warriors would strike first with a power play goal from
Mike Tish at 14:33 in the first, but the visiting Warrior would tie it up six minutes later with a power play goal of their own from Patrick Freeman at 7:55.
Jimmie Kotilainen gave Tech the lead back just 73 second later though while
Jace Childs lit the lamp with 62 seconds left in the period to give the Orange and Black a 3-1 lead heading into the first intermission.
The hosts would notch their second power play goal of the night with 12:43 to go in the second as
Brian Skillicorn's shot found the back of the net to give Tech a 4-1 lead. Waldorf would cut the deficit to 4-2 with 9:25 in the second, but that would be all they would get past
John Slavik while
Zach Bennett stretched the Warrior lead back to three with a goal at 12:54 in the third.
Slavik finished the night with 25 saves to improve to 6-0 on the season while
Stavros Soilis,
Felix Kronwall, Tish, Skillicorn and Bennett all recorded an assist.
Tech (10-0-1) concludes its weekend set Saturday with their final home game of the semester against Waldorf. Puck drop is set for 5:30 p.m. from the SportONE/Parkview Ice House.
