Tech Shuts Downs Saints for Sixth Straight Win

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The No. 14-ranked Indiana Tech women's basketball team topped Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) foe, No. 22-ranked, Siena Heights, 77-38, on Saturday afternoon at the Schaefer Center.
 
Haley Cook led the Warriors with 20 points and three rebounds, while Kendall Knapke finished the contest with 12 points and eight rebounds. DeAnn Kauffman chipped in 10 points and seven rebounds off the bench for the Orange and Black. 
 
After Siena Heights would jump out to a quick 6-1 lead just three minute into the contest, the Warriors would answer back with an 8-0 run behind back-to-back three pointers from Knapke and Cook. Tech continued to grow their first quarter lead behind hot shooting from behind the arc, grabbing an eventual 22-11 advantage with just over two minutes remaining. After ten minutes of play, the Orange and Black held the lead over the Saints 25-11.
 
As the Warrior offense would heat up, their defensive play would remain steady, holding Siena Heights to just eight points in the second quarter. Back-to-back buckets from Kauffman helped push Tech out to a 34-11 lead with just over six minutes remaining in the half. Tech would maintain their 20-plus point advantage the remainder of the second quarter, getting out to as much as 26 in the final thirty seconds of play. Both teams would head into the break with the Warriors leading the Saints 45-19. The Orange and Black were fueled by a 46.7% first half shooting percentage from three-point range and a 12-point first half performance from Knapke. 
 
Heading into quarter three, Tech's dominant play would continue, as they held a 50-29 lead at the midway point after a triple from Cook. Despite Siena Heights improving on the offensive side of the ball, the Warriors would still hold momentum and the lead, 58-29, heading into the final ten minutes of regulation.
 
What was a 20-plus point advantage for the Orange and Black through much of the game grew to a 30-plus point advantage through much of the fourth quarter. With just over three and a half minutes to play in regulations, the Warriors found themselves up 73-36 after a jumper from Kauffman. Tech would go on to win the contest 77-38 to remain perfect in conference play. 
 
The Orange and Black (7-1, 2-0 WHAC) will return to action on Tuesday as they host the University of Michigan-Dearborn in a 6 p.m. WHAC match-up from the Schaefer Center.
