FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech men's ice hockey team defeated Lawrence Tech, 2-1, in overtime on Saturday evening at the SportONE/Parkview Ice House in NAIA Division play to take a 2-0 lead in the Tech Challenge Cup.
"Sometimes you face a goalie who gets hot and that's what we saw tonight," head coach
Frank DiCristofaro said. "You have to tip your hat to him. He was their best player. But, you have to find a way to win and that's what we did tonight."
The Warriors would fire off 85 shots on goal at LTU goalie Austin Petty, who made 83 saves in the overtime loss while the Blue Devil defense held the Orange and Black power play scoreless in five opportunities.
Tech would strike first with a goal from
Adam Jonak at 12:21 in the first, and while the hosts would fire off shots at Petty, the Warriors would hold just a 1-0 lead through the game until Parker Hodges snuck one past
Zach Larson with 28 seconds to go in regulation to send the game into overtime.
Tech would continue to fire off shots in the overtime, outshooting LTU 10-0 before
Jace Childs recorded his fourth game-winning goal of the year with just two seconds left on the clock to give the Warriors the sweep.
Larson made 15 saves in net for the Warriors while
Joe Molfetta assisted on Jonak's goal.
Tech (9-0-1) returns to action on Friday, November 17 as they host NAIA Division foe Waldorf. Puck drop is set for 8:30 p.m. from the SportONE/Parkview Ice House.
