GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The No. 5-ranked Indiana Tech men's basketball team snapped a two-game losing skid on Wednesday evening as they defeated Aquinas, 86-56, in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) action at the Sturrus Sports and Fitness Center.
Nic Williams led the Warriors with 17 points and was one of six players that recorded double-digit scoring efforts for Tech.
Max Huber added 13 points and seven rebounds off the bench while
Joel Wincowski chipped in 12 points.
Mitch Morken,
Dylan Phair and
Scott Schwieterman each had 11 points.
The Saints would have the first lead of the ball game thanks to a jumper from Arsenio Arrington, but the Warriors would go on a 18-2 run over the next six minutes to take a 20-6 lead. Wincowski would start the scoring spurt with back-to-back baskets while five different players would score for Tech during the run.
Tech would continue to build their lead through the rest of the first half, extending their lead to as many as 21 points as they took a 45-24 lead into the locker room at the break.
The Orange and Black would shoot a blistering 66.7% from the floor during the opening 20 minutes of play while going 5-7 from three-point range and limiting the Saints to just 33.3% shooting from the floor and 1-6 from behind the arc.
Tech would continue its strong shooting in the second half, going 15-28 (.536) from the floor in the final 20 minutes while out-scoring Aquinas 41-32 in the half. The Saints would never get cut the deficit to less than 19 while the Orange and Black grew their advantage to as many as 30 points in the second.
Tech (9-2, 4-1 WHAC) returns to action on Saturday as they host Lourdes in a conference battle. Tipoff is set for 3 p.m. from the Schaefer Center. The game will also serve as the team's Alumni Day, with those in attendance being recognized at halftime.
